JEEPERS...It's Jane!

80"w x 86"h
2009

Early in my quilting career, I joined a Dear Jane group.   They were constructing the traditional quilt made famous by Brenda Manges Papadakis. Although I enjoyed the camaraderie of the group I could not follow the original pattern.  So this is my contemporary version of a Dear Jane quilt!

The quilt has 380 blocks including: 114 Dear Jane blocks, 16 original arrow/fish blocks, 89 shaded solids of hand dyes and 158 background batik blocks, all 4.5" finished size.  Three larger blocks with detailed shading and applique comprise the center.   The machine appliques were satin stitched in place, then enhanced with 2-3 built in decorative stitches. There are a total of 2,887 pieces in the quilt top.  I freehand machine quilted it using 2,000+ yards of bright orange YLI Silk #100 thread.

All work was done on my Bernina 440 home sewing machine.
