Workshops, Classes and Lectures
This is my current class lineup. I’m happy to come to guilds throughout Ohio as well as your local quilt shop. Or, get a group of friends together and we can schedule a private class! Contact me for more details and we can customize an event to suit your needs.
STIPPLING WITH STYLE I
Are you tired of sending all your pieces out to a longarm quilter to finish? This class is for you!! This is a notebook style class; you will make samples of various quilting stitches and background fillers and start your own reference manual for the future. Class is not designed for absolute beginners, but just a tiny bit of freehand experience is all that is necessary! You will spend the day experimenting and learning how much you can easily accomplish on your home machine.
Continue along with creating new quilting samples for your notebook. Beth will introduce new and exciting fillers using stencils and freehand techniques. Great new designs to add to your repertoire!
Feeling fairly comfortable with freehand machine quilting & ready for the next step? Spend the day experimenting with fabulous feather designs and learn to add depth & texture with echo quilting. Again, a notebook style class to create samples for you to take home & keep as a reference of great things to come in your free motion quilting journey.
Even if you think you have no artistic talent, you CAN create beautiful effects easily with Shiva Paintstiks! We will start the day with an overview of how to use Paintstiks. Then you will create your own unique notebook cover using paints & stencils supplied with the class. After a short lunch break you will complete a Personal Padfolio to take home with you! (You can complete your Painted Padfolio at home after the paints dry.)
PETITE PAINTSTIK PURSE
In 2 easy sessions you will create your own artistic masterpiece! The first day we will experiment with Shiva Paintstiks to create your design and have a brief discussion of appliqué. Second week we will quilt and construct this easy purse. No experience necessary - even novice quilters can complete this project!
JEEPERS… And my Quilting Journey!
Beth's quilting journey has been a whirlwind the past 5 years! Through this interesting slide show she will share this journey. What started as making quilts for fun has turned into a career of exhibiting at national quilt shows. She will focus on her award winning quilt; JEEPERS... It’s Jane! which won Viewers Choice at the National Quilting Association show in 2009 and went on to Paducah and Houston in 2010. This quilt was also featured in the International Festival - Quilt Scene magazine and many blogs and videos. You will see how this quilt developed from the beginning stages and how Beth turned a blank design wall and lots of 4.5" blocks into an award winner!
ADDING DETAIL & DESIGN with SHIVA PAINTSTIKS
Even if you think you are not an artist, you can create beautiful pieces using Shiva Paintstiks – I guarantee it!! Learn to create your own stencils from freezer paper for a truly customized look. Use the purchased rubbing plates or stamps to make unique designs to enhance quilts, wallhangings and decorator items.
Do you think your quilt is complete when the binding is done? NO! You should document the important information on a quilt label. Yet, there is no need to make this a mundane task. Join Beth and get new & fresh ideas for creative, yet easy labels. You could incorporate left over blocks from the quilt, include applique or embroidery motifs, add a special message to the quilt recipient, and embellish in a multitude of ways. We will cover simple to elaborate labels. Beth likes to use the Kaleidoscope Kreator III™ and word processing programs and will include a quick demo of these, as well as using pretreated fabric sheets for stunning labels. Plus, learn a quick binding method to finish the label off. Lots of finished samples and inspiring ideas!
